  • partial veil - the membranous cover of the spore bearing surface. Generally covering gills or pores during the growth process.
    When a partial veil ruptures it can leave remnants on the cap's margin or an annulus ( ring around the stalk ), or both.
  • pip-shaped - generally referring to a mushroom spore's shape - having the shape and configuration of an apple seed.
  • pores - the openings of the tubes in Bolete and Polypore mushrooms.
    Pore arrangement, size, color, geometric opening pattern ( whether round or angular ) and color change upon bruising / injury ( or no change in color ) are all important identification characteristics.
