  • bulbous - referring to a mushroom's stalk feature - a stalk with an obviously enlarged base, sort of like a pot-belly.
  • button - referring to a mushroom's growth stage - the fruit body of a mushroom before it has expanded. In the case of mushrooms with veils it is before the partial veil has been ruptured open thereby exposing the pore surface.
    Applies to gilled mushrooms and those with pores.
    A button can be very small or very large, depending on mushroom species.
